Mr.
Fergus has more than 25 years of experience serving the financial needs
of a broad array of clients. His specialties include insurance
consulting; executive compensation; financial, estate and retirement
planning; and qualified and nonqualified retirement plans. He served for
many years as a tax partner in the Cleveland office of the accounting
firm KPMG LLP, where he also served as partner in charge of the
Personal Financial Planning practice for Northeast Ohio. In addition,
he served on the firm’s Innovation Strategies Committee and was the
firm’s national director of Career Transition Services and Insurance
Consulting Services. He frequently lectures to boards of directors,
corporate executives and professional groups, and he has been quoted in
scores of local, regional and national publications, including the New
York Times, Washington Post, Financial Times and the Chicago Tribune.
David Lightner, CPA , CFP® | Principal |
Mr.
Lightner has more than 20 years of experience in financial planning,
tax strategy and investment advice for financially successful families
and individuals. For much of that time, he served as a senior wealth
advisory consultant at MAI Wealth Advisors, a prominent firm catering
to the family office needs of successful professional athletes. Over
the years, he has assembled a global network of colleagues and
financial consultants who help him serve clients with highly
specialized needs. His insights about the financial side of
professional sports have been quoted in a number of publications,
including Golf Digest. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and
economics from Ashland College.
Thomas Bertsch | Principal |
Mr.
Bertsch has several years of experience serving the personal and
financial needs of successful individuals, specializing in professional
athletes. He is a skilled consultant in budgeting, investing, and
planning for retirement, tax and insurance, among other matters. He
holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from John Carroll University.
Richard M. Weinberg, Esq. | Principal |
Mr.
Weinberg’s experience covers a broad range of planning and advice
regarding Taxation of closely-held businesses, corporations,
partnerships, trusts, income tax planning and estate planning for
individuals. The aforementioned work is augmented by over 23 years
experience beginning in the Cleveland office of Coopers & Lybrand
aka Price Waterhouse Coopers and as a partner with the accounting firm
of Sustin, Bartell, Waldman & Fergus. His clients include high net
worth individuals and business entities. Mr. Weinberg is also
extensively involved in the valuation of businesses and forensic
accounting services used in conjunction with acquisitions, financing of
leveraged buy-outs and support to the legal profession. He is a
licensed Attorney and a member of the United States Tax Court. He has
spoken often to organizations regarding federal and state income tax
planning, business entities, personal financial planning, estate
planning and real estate taxation and has participated in many seminars
and training sessions regarding these subjects. He also a member of
numerous boards including corporations and not for profit entities.
Jennifer Rasmussen, Esq. | Chief Operating Officer |
As a senior member of the high wealth family practice, Ms. Rasmussen
primarily concentrates on financial, estate and retirement planning and
executive compensation consulting work. Ms. Rasmussen has a B.A. from
Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana. She graduated from Tulane
University School of Law, New Orleans, Louisiana and was admitted to
the Ohio Bar in November of 2001. Prior to joining FSM Capital
Management, LLC, she worked as a tax consultant in KPMG's Compensation
and Benefit Group. She is a member of the the Ohio State Bar
Association.
Chris MacLaren, CPA, MAcc | Director of FSM Fund Services |
Mr. MacLaren is the Director of FSM Fund Services which provides accounting and administrative solutions for private investment companies. Chris joined FSM in 2016 after spending 12 years in public accounting with a focus in the investment management industry. Chris spent the six years prior to joining FSM as a Director at Cohen Fund Audit Services, Ltd., an audit and tax firm focused on serving various members of the investment management industry, where he served as a leader of the audit practice for private equity and hedge funds. Chris is experienced with a wide variety of fund structures and investment strategies that include complex derivatives and illiquid private investments. He also has a deep understanding of the SEC's Custody Rule and has spoken on the requirements of the Custody Rule on several occasions. He is a member of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Chris received his Master of Accountancy from Cleveland State University and has a bachelor's degree in economics from Wittenberg University.
